Bookmarks [2026]
The bookmarks I have saved go back as far as when I first installed early versions of Firefox (then called Phoenix) and have been through multiple migrations since.
Sadly, many of these don't work because of link rot. One regret is not knowing to archive these. You sort of assume these sites never go away.
I've decided to go through these, see which are still interesting to share, and add my own annotations. Perhaps some of these are of use to you, or just have historical importance. Who knows.
It certainly helps me to clean up these long lists of bookmarks going back decades. If anything I am doing this for my own self reflection.
I've decided to organize these by subject area, with notes on when the content was bookmarked (approximately) and my own commentary. The date does not reflect when the content was created but my best idea of when I saved the link.
I plan to update this page and reorganize it on a rolling basis.
Humor
- How I Met my Wife
- (~2006, original link broken, available from Internet Archive)
One of my favorite essays employing wordplay, originally published in the New Yorker in 1994. A "pareil tale of bridled passion."
- RinkWorks Computer Stupidities
- (~2006) A site I am surprised to see still alive in 2026 and looking exactly how I remember it with its stunningly retro design. I remember reading through these and exploring the rest of the site in my youth.
- Wondermark Archive Control
- (~2006) This site still exists but the specific link I bookmarked does not work. You can find their archive now in 2026 at https://wondermark.com/archive. It's a web comic I barely remember, but I'm sure I found it hilarious at the time.
- The case of the 500-mile email
- (~2008) A funny story involving technology and the speed of light.
Words
- A.Word.A.Day
- (~2004) When I was studying for the SAT, I found many daily word sites to expand my vocabulary and hopefully ace those analogies. But I ended up getting hooked on fun and interesting and unusual English words. This site is well-known and still updated to this day. Sadly I stopped visiting it daily a while ago. It still occupies the 9th position on my bookmarks toolbar.
- Merriam-Webster Word of the Day
- (~2004) Another daily word page.
- Dictionary.reference.com Word of the Day
- (~2004) Sadly, opening this now in 2026 I see this was shut down just a month ago in May 2026. Apparently they were part of the Ask.com universe and went offline alongside its parent company.
